Remove MSI pre-installed app shortcuts from taskbar!

Laptop brands are known to keep their software pre-installed on their laptops. These software applications can often be useful to make the best use of the device’s features. However, these can have annoying issues too. While MSI is not known to include a lot of bloatware, but still there can be times when you encounter issues. This is just one of those instances where the pre-installed software shortcuts comes back in taskbar even after removing them.

The most common complaint among MSI laptop users can be the annoying problem of not being able to remove MSI Center, Xbox and other apps’ shortcut from the taskbar. It comes back right after a reboot. Their software, i.e., MSI Center, does not seem to provide any option either to get rid of it.

So, in this article, I will provide you the method by which you can permanently remove the shortcuts of pre-installed apps (by MSI) from taskbar.

Remove MSI Center, Xbox and other apps’ shortcut from Taskbar:

  • First of all, enable “Hidden Items” option in your file explorer to be able to view hidden files.
  • Once you are done, head to C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Shell and then delete the files called “LayoutModification.xml” and “LayoutModification2.xml”.
  • Now open C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Shell and delete the files mentioned above again.
  • Now remove the shortcuts from the taskbar again and reboot your device.

Note: I mentioned C:\ here because that is the most common drive where people have installed Windows. So, in case you have installed it another device, simply change it to the respective drive letter. Besides that, %username% is meant to be replaced by the username of your Windows user account.

Conclusion:

After you are done with the method, you should not see their pre-installed software’s shortcuts in taskbar again unless you pin it yourself. Hope this article was helpful to you. In case you face any issues, be sure to comment your problem below.
